Moab or Mars? Part 2: Canyonlands and Dead Horse

This post continues describing the weekend spent in Moab, UT or was it Mars? Like I said before, if you haven't been yet, add this town to your bucket list. Give yourself 4 - 5 days because I could've easily spent more time exploring. Part 2 of the weekend below:

Day 2 Continued

After hiking all day, we grabbed some food and headed to Dead Horse State Park for sunset. It was my favorite sunset yet and you can see why below. The colors kept changing in the canyon and the clouds were reflecting the shades of sunset.

Day 3:
We continued chasing the sun all weekend. Time was precious on our final day in Moab so we were up with the sun in Canyonlands National Park. Mesa Arch was absolutely indescribable. The pictured below explain it all. Not pictured, are all the photographers posted up trying to capture this moment. It was truly hectic trying to get this photo but we all respected one another and let each person take turns as quickly as possible while you could still see the sun through the arch.

After sunrise, we ventured to Upheaval Dome since it was a quick drive away. Scientists think this massive crater was caused by a meteorite, but they're not certain. The wind was howling at the top so it really felt like we were on the edge of a strange world.

We had to checkout of the hotel at noon so our last trail in Canyonlands was Aztec Butte where we scaled a massive boulder to get panoramic views of the area. This was our biggest test in rock climbing yet. I'm actually surprised they let you scale this boulder because you could easily slip, fall, and ruin your trip. Luckily, this deterred most families so we were alone most of the time which was a nice change given how crowded Arches was.

We got back to the hotel at 11:50am, showered, and packed the car to wrap up the weekend in Moab. My co-pilot had to lay on top of the roof carrier this time to get it to close because we weren't as precise when packing but we did it! The afternoon was spent driving from Moab to Kanab, Utah which is our home base for the next month.  Life off leash continues!
